Teen Beach Movie

We’ve listened to the soundtrack, and it’s kind of catchy, in a weird sixties/Doris Day kicks ass way, but without knowing the context, it’s hard to figure out why. So Friday evening saw us, popcorn in bowl, huddled on the sofa, glued to the Disney channel, for the premiere of Teen Beach Movie. Instantly I was hooked. Sweet girl, blonde boy, doomed romance as the long summer draws to an end; it’s a winner in any young girl’s book. What is Teen Beach Movie all about? Kind of surfer chick meets HSM Cliff Richard style, the movie sees McKenzie and …

Our dream holiday in Orlando: what makes a good theme park?

Yesterday I recounted our excitement at travelling to Orlando. We were off on the trip of a lifetime, and despite a few hiccups we made it! So, 11 theme parks later, I’m back to tell you what I’ve learned on my epic rollercoaster tour. What makes a good theme park? a. You have to get the queue experience right This (ficticious) Jabba’s Palace attraction has the queue system completely wrong. First, it opens well after the park opening time, so immediately falling short of customer expectations. You will find this at Sea World: we turned up early to beat the queues, only …

Our dream holiday in Orlando: we’re off on an epic trip!

A while back we showed you this video reveal of the plan for our dream holiday in Orlando. Bearing in mind that by the day of our trip we clearly knew we were off to Florida’s Disney World resort, so we considered Daddy’s attempt to wind us up nothing short of brutal: We quickly put him straight and dragged him away from the Easyjet desks: Panic over, we set about getting excited. Here are some basic tips on how to make the most of a long plane journey with kids: Arrive at the airport super-early. Yes early! The grown-ups will …

Homework: Wot so Funee?

My daughter is a funny writer. When she puts her mind to it, she can write witty commentary filled with wonderful adjectives and characterisation. But she’s easily bored, and – if I’m going to be more honest than a loving mother ought to be – a tad lazy. Her teachers, enjoying what she writes when inspired, have always seen fit to encourage her into increased written productivity. It hasn’t always worked. Creative writing: This year she has a lovely teacher who has ventured into the dangerous waters of loosening the reins on her creativity. For our recent holiday to Florida, …

Pillow Pets: Wot so Funee?

Image courtesy of the Disney Store Isn’t he cute? Stitch – the Bug took a fancy to him immediately on arrival at Disney World in Orlando, having never once watched an episode of Lilo and Stitch on TV. It’s so easy to spend money at Disney – there is cuteness everywhere you look. Even if you steer clear of the gift shops, you can’t fail to be swept along with the magic on the streets. Most of our requests were rebuffed by M&D, but by the law of averages we prevailed, and secured a couple of these: How could any …

A-Z of Me

If you are a regular reader of this blog you will know pretty much everything there is to know about me. However, I have been asked some questions by Mum of One  around the alphabet. Now I know my A-Z extreemely well, being a speed-reader and all, so let me see if I can conjure up some lesser known points of interest around the Glib Girl and Bug: A is for Anorak: Do you have a sad side? Well, my right side is the one I sleep on, so that must me my happiest, right? Ergo, my sad side is on the left! …

His Father’s Son I think I’ve mentioned Daddy’s love of stock car racing. He is desperate to race himself, but Mummy won’t let him for fear of what could happen. So he contents himself with dragging us to race meetings every now and then. I take a stack of books and beg for ice-cream, sweets, chips, airhorns, anything to create a diversion and get me through the day. The Bug takes an altogether more fanatical stance on the event, showing up with his picnic chair and settling in for the duration. Does the pink Disney princess chair bother him? Not …

Cute things my brother says.

So, we’re watching Dumbo last night (I know, it’s not the visual masterpiece of Disney’s more recent creations, but it’s only 60 minutes long, and that’s how much time we had before the much anticipated final of Dancing on Ice). We get to the bit where the hallucinatory dancing elephants morph into various incarnations. Bug finds all this hilarious, until one of the elephants is hit by lightening. ‘Ouch’ he says. ‘That would of stinged’ . Bit of an understatement, I thought, but hey, fairly perceptive for a 3 year old!
