Book review: Middle School by James Patterson

Book review: Middle School by James Patterson

Middle School, by James Patterson.

Hi this is actually GG once again and I have to do a book review on a Sunday! I know that in some religions Sunday is a day of rest. Well, in our house that rule doesn’t apply.

So, I’m going to write a book review about Middle school: My brother is a big fat liar!

Summary:

Georgia Khatchadorian, Rafe’s little sister has started sixth grade and everyone is avoiding her because when Rafe was in that school  he was very naughty and he got told off a lot. But Georgia desperately needs some friends. So when some people say they need a guitarist she says she plays electric guitar. This is a lie. From then on her life is very strange…

What I liked/disliked:

I quite liked the fact that  James Patterson has written a book about what Georgia thinks about Rafe . I disliked the fact that some times there are parts where it gets away from the story a bit, because we see what the writer thinks, rather than what Georgia thinks. Maybe he did that because he got bored of writing in a girls point of view. I would get tired of writing in a boys point of view.

My favorite character was Georgia because she wasn’t afraid to say what she thinks. I’m a lot like this so I could imagine getting on really well with Georgia. I disliked Missy Trillin because she was mean and snobby. For example, when Georgia goes to school with green hair Missy Trillin makes fun of her by saying that her hair is like seaweed. To be fair, Georgia’s hair is like seaweed, but it’s not good manners to say so!

Helen says: we recently posted a recommended reading list for 9 year olds. GG is enjoying the challenge of some more grown up books, but like me, she occasionally likes a fun, fast-paced, easy read. The Middle School series is just this – perfect for half-term reading alone. She devoured it in less than 24 hours and was then ready for the meatier challenge of Holes, by Louis Sachar. I’ll be tackling Death Comes to Pemberley next. Just got to finish my Jodi Picoult first 😉

James Patterson is a renowned author who began writing for children as a way to inspire his young son to read more. Since then, his children’s books have been bestsellers. His website, ReadKiddoRead aims to help adults find great books that children will love to read. I’ve had a browse, and I’m hoping it will prove very useful in satisfying my daughter’s appetite for new stories.
